While autumn may spell the end of fresh leafy greens, there are still plenty of ingredients available to make a fresh and vibrant salad. This easy combination of celery and Asian pear creates a delightfully refreshing side dish that perfectly complements a savory roast or a hearty stew, delivering loads of vitamins and minerals while awakening your senses with a crisp crunch and bright acidity.
The celery adds a fresh herbal flavor that compliments the sweetness of the pear while salting it eliminates excess moisture and transforms its texture. After being squeezed, the celery becomes more crunchy, giving it a textural contrast to the crisp, juicy pear.
I used a tart and fragrant Japanese citrus called sudachi, but any tangy citrus like limes or Meyer lemons would work well. Try serving this topped with my Soy Sauce Roasted Walnuts for another texture and a little more substance.
